abuse & exploitation: bringing young people out of the dark & into the light of DAY
WHAT IS DAY?
DAY is a unique way of working with young people!
Enabling layered, multi-faceted conversations with young people about abuse, relationships and misogyny, DAY enables practitioners to engage young people in exciting and fun ways. Young people are often reluctant to discuss their relationships, especially if there's anything difficult going on; DAY creates interesting conversations that bring learning without telling young people what to do or what's wrong with their situation.
With a massive array of resources, DAY can be used as a 10-week multimedia programme, as a shorter, tailored resource for one-to-one or group sessions and as a toolkit to inform conversationsw ith young people. It's designed to be used with young people over the age of 14, although can be adapted for use with young people over 11 years.
It challenges detrimental mind-sets about abuse and exploitation, explores how beliefs inform behaviour, and looks at the role of the media in reinforcing unhealthy beliefs.
DAY was created by Natalie Collins (www.nataliecollins.info) and was developed to meet the growing need to provide young people with education about domestic abuse and exploitation. In order to run DAY, practitioners must train as Session Leaders with the DAY Programme.
